Tammy Baldwin, born on February 11, 1962, in Madison, Wisconsin, is a Democratic politician serving as the junior United States Senator from Wisconsin since 2013. She is the first woman from Wisconsin and the first openly gay person elected to the U.S. Senate. Raised by her grandparents, Baldwin's early life experiences, including a significant childhood illness and serving as her grandmother's primary caregiver, shaped her commitment to public service and healthcare advocacy.
