Steny Hamilton Hoyer, born on June 14, 1939, in New York City, is a Democratic politician representing Maryland's 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1981. Raised in Mitchellville, Maryland, he has been a prominent figure in both state and national politics. Hoyer has held significant leadership roles, including House Majority Leader from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023. He is recognized for his commitment to education, economic development, and national security.
