ABOUT
Biography
Glenn Frederick Ivey, born on February 27, 1961, in Chelsea, Massachusetts, is a Democratic politician and attorney serving as the U.S. Representative for Maryland's 4th congressional district since January 3, 2023. Raised in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, during the era of school desegregation, Ivey was influenced by his parents' commitment to public service—his mother, a librarian who desegregated multiple schools, and his father, who worked for a federal agency assisting unemployed workers.
Before his congressional tenure, Ivey held several significant positions, including Chief Counsel to Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, Counsel to Senator Paul Sarbanes during the Whitewater investigations, and Chief Majority Counsel to the Senate Banking Committee. He also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney under Eric Holder and chaired Maryland’s Public Service Commission. Notably, Ivey was elected twice as State's Attorney for Prince George's County, where he established a pioneering Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit and an award-winning mortgage fraud unit.
In 2020, Ivey co-founded the law firm Ivey & Levetown. He resides in Prince George’s County with his wife, Jolene, a County Councilmember. Their son, Julian, serves as a Delegate for District 47A in the Maryland House of Delegates.
