Biography

Steven Alexzander Horsford, born on April 29, 1973, in Las Vegas, Nevada, is a Democratic politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Nevada's 4th congressional district. He made history as Nevada's first African-American State Senate Majority Leader and the first African-American to represent Nevada in Congress. Horsford has been a strong advocate for responsible gun control, influenced by the loss of his father to gun violence when he was 19.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Attended the University of Nevada, Reno, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2014.

  • Political Experience:

    • Served in the Nevada State Senate from 2004 to 2012, representing Clark County's 4th district.
    • Became the first African-American State Senate Majority Leader in Nevada, serving from 2009 to 2012.
    • Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012, serving from 2013 to 2015, and re-elected in 2018, serving from 2019 to the present.
