Biography

Born on March 23, 1948, in Port Arthur, Texas, Brian Philip Babin is a lifelong resident of East Texas. He has served as the U.S. Representative for Texas's 36th congressional district since January 3, 2015. Prior to his congressional tenure, Babin practiced dentistry in Woodville, Texas, for over 30 years. His early career included service as an airborne artilleryman in the Texas Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve. He also held various jobs to finance his education, such as merchant seaman, janitor, musician, disc jockey, and U.S. Post Office letter carrier. Following dental school, Babin was commissioned as a Captain in the United States Air Force and stationed overseas at Ramstein, Germany.

Babin and his wife, Roxanne, have been married since 1972 and have five children and 17 grandchildren. They are active members of the First Baptist Church of Woodville, where Babin has served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and member of Gideons International.

In 2014, Babin was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Texas's 36th congressional district. He has been re-elected in subsequent terms, including the 2024 election.

• Chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology: Appointed at the beginning of the 119th Congress, Babin serves as a national leader for U.S. space policy and represents the interests of NASA’s Johnson Space Center, located within his district.

• Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee: This role allows him to address critical infrastructure components such as ports, highways, rails, and pipelines, which are vital to the economic activity of his district.

• Recipient of the Republican Pioneer Award: In 2014, Babin was honored for his instrumental role in establishing and strengthening the Republican Party in East Texas.

Throughout his career, Babin has been a steadfast advocate for conservative principles, focusing on issues such as national security, economic growth, and the protection of constitutional rights.
