Biography
William Andrew Ogles IV, known as Andy Ogles, was born on June 18, 1971, in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a Republican politician and businessman currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Tennessee's 5th Congressional District, a position he has held since January 3, 2023. Prior to his tenure in Congress, Ogles served as the Mayor of Maury County, Tennessee, from 2018 to 2022. He resides on a farm in Culleoka, Tennessee, with his wife, Monica, and their three children.
Education
Ogles attended Middle Tennessee State University , where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies in 2007. Initially, he pursued studies in Political Science and International Relations but completed his degree in Liberal Studies with minors in Political Science and English.
Political Experience
- Executive Director, Americans for Prosperity Tennessee Division : Ogles led the Tennessee chapter of this conservative political advocacy group, focusing on tax policy and government reform.
- Executive Director, Laffer Center: He served as the executive director of this conservative think tank, advising on tax policy.
- Mayor of Maury County, Tennessee : As mayor, Ogles was known for his conservative positions, including opposition to COVID-19 mask mandates and support for tax increases to fund county projects.
- U.S. Representative for Tennessee's 5th Congressional District : Elected in 2022, Ogles has taken strongly conservative positions, including opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage. He was one of the original 19 members of Congress to vote against Kevin McCarthy for Speaker of the House.
